It’s not stubbornness; it’s survival instinct. By the time most cats show obvious signs that something is wrong, a disease has often been quietly progressing for months or years. Traditional annual vet visits capture a single, stress-filled moment in time once a year. They miss the pattern.

A Lesson Learned from Greypal
ScoutR wasn’t born in a boardroom; it was inspired by a very special cat named Greypal.
Our founder, Lisa, spent over two decades in animal welfare—managing shelters, leading programs at the Petco Foundation, and building access-to-care initiatives. Along the way, she met Greypal.
Greypal arrived at a busy animal shelter after being hit by a car. He was severely injured, barely moving, and facing an uncertain future. Lisa raised the funds for his surgery, brought him home to foster, and ended up giving him a forever home. Greypal recovered fully, convinced that Lisa’s husband had personally reattached his back legs, and spent the rest of his life acting more like a best friend than a pet.
Years later, Greypal slowed down. Assuming it was a mix of aging joints and dental issues, he was treated for arthritis. What no one knew at the time was that Greypal had underlying, silent kidney decline—and his medications accelerated it. Because traditional tools couldn't catch the full picture in time, his care came too late.
"There was no way for us to have known."
That realization became the founding purpose of ScoutR. We built ScoutR so cat parents and veterinarians can know—before a treatment is prescribed, not after.
