The Discovery Visit is how we meet your cat, build a complete picture of their health, and establish the veterinary relationship that makes everything else possible. It happens in your home — or at one of our Saturday Community Care Days — and it is the foundation for the continuous, proactive care that follows.

Understanding the Discovery Visit

Most feline illness builds silently long before symptoms show. The Discovery Visit exists to get ahead of that. In a single unhurried appointment, your ScoutR veterinarian performs a full physical exam, collects a DNA sample, administers core vaccines, and gathers baseline screening labs — then establishes your VCPR (Veterinarian–Client–Patient Relationship) so telehealth and prescribing are unlocked from day one.

The result is a true health baseline: the reference point every future reading, alert, and trend is measured against. It is the difference between a once-a-year snapshot and knowing what normal looks like for your cat.

Two Ways to Start — Same Care, Your Choice of Setting

• In-Home Discovery Visit — $299 ($399 for cats 7+). Your veterinarian comes to you. Your cat never leaves the couch.
• Community Care Day — $199 ($299 for cats 7+). A lower-cost entry point at our twice-monthly Saturday community clinics. You bring your cat to us, that is the only difference.

What to Expect During Your Discovery Visit

Your Discovery Visit takes about 50 minutes and is designed to be calm and thorough — no carrier, no waiting room, no stress. Here is what your veterinarian covers:

Full Physical Exam + Environment Assessment

A complete nose-to-tail examination, plus a look at your cat's home environment — diet, litter setup, activity, and stressors — so recommendations fit your cat's real life, not a generic template.

Basepaws DNA Swab

A simple cheek swab maps your cat's genetic predispositions. This seeds your cat's risk model permanently, so screening and monitoring can be personalized to what your cat is actually predisposed to — not a one-size-fits-all schedule.

Core Vaccines: FVRCP + Rabies

Your cat receives the feline core vaccines — FVRCP (protecting against panleukopenia, calicivirus, and herpesvirus/rhinotracheitis) and rabies — administered gently at home.

Baseline Screening Labs

Urinalysis, a fecal screen, and blood labs are collected to establish baseline values for kidney, thyroid, and metabolic health — the systems where feline disease hides longest. Senior cats may be advised to add an expanded blood panel at member pricing.

VCPR Established

By the end of the visit, your Veterinarian–Client–Patient Relationship is on record. In California, this is legally required before any telehealth or prescribing — and it is what makes ScoutR's ongoing, remote-friendly care possible.

Within 1 to 3 weeks you receive your cat's Health Profile — a personalized risk map with clear recommendations, the aha moment no single visit can give you. From there, your veterinarian recommends the right membership for your cat and you decide; prepay annually to save. Then continuous monitoring begins between visits: smart-device tracking, AI pain and screening checks, unlimited telehealth, and a risk dashboard measuring your cat against their own baseline.
